Giving Thanks

This blog post might be a little nontraditional compared to my normal ones, but hey.. change is a good thing right? Not to delve into extreme detail, but I’ve had a few blows to heart recently in which, simply put, people that I loved and trusted turned their backs on me and didn’t seem to care. A normal person might allow circumstances like this to harden their heart, but although I was deeply hurt, I’ve been continuously reading my ‘mantra’, and it’s honestly helped me to stay true to who I am and know that trusting people and being sensitive are some of my greatest qualities even if others portray them as negative. What is my mantra? It goes as follows…

Don’t let someone steal your tenderness. Don’t allow the coldness and fear of others to tarnish your perfectly vulnerable beating heart. Nothing is more powerful than allowing yourself to truly be affected by things. Whether it’s a song, a stranger, a mountain, a rain drop, a tea kettle, an article, a sentence, a footstep…feel it all – look around you. All of this is for you. Take it and have gratitude. Give it and feel love.” – Zooey Deschanel

So after reading this quote I can’t tell you how many times, I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m going to get hurt. It’s a part of life, but there is so much more to life to celebrate, and I shouldn’t let ‘the coldness and fear of others’ to get in the way of my own happiness. With that all being said, here’s a few pretty great things that I’m looking forward to and celebrating in my life, and I’m so thankful that God has given me the opportunity to experience these wonderful things.

1. I have officially submitted my complete application to study abroad in Segovia, Spain next summer! Fingers crossed!

2. I got a raise at work!

3. I’m coaching a club volleyball team starting in January! I’ve always wanted the opportunity to pass on all of the great things that I’ve learned through my club experience.

4. I only have class 4 days a week next semester! This is grand.

5. Most importantly, it’s my favorite time of year – the holiday season! I get to spend way more time with family and friends from out of town, and the spirit of Christmas is something that genuinely makes my heart happy!

What are some things you’ll be thankful for this Thanksgiving?
